Weaving harmonies and melodies in a group

How to pluck out a melody and add harmonies and chords for your ukulele group to create a full “ensemble” sound, with Sally Carter.

Why Do This Workshop? • Are you in a ukulele group or run a ukulele group? • Would you like to learn to read tab or develop your tab reading skills? • Have you ever wanted to play your ukulele as a melody instrument? • Do you want to explore harmony playing? • Or just simply take your playing to the next level? Whether you are a solo player, in a ukulele group or teaching ukulele in a school or community group then this workshop is for you.

Topics: • How to read tablature and understand timing in music. • Things to consider when performing as a group. • Plucking techniques. • Fingering considerations for the fretboard.

Presenter Sally Carter performs solo as Sally’s Ukulele and as a duo with Keith Rea as Green Fieldz. Sally performs many genres on ukulele including classical, jazz, ragtime, Celtic, bluegrass, pop and old favourites. Performing at many festivals in Australia and NZ, Sally has also run workshops and master classes on different aspects of ukulele playing. Sally has written two Ukulele Ensemble books – suitable for beginners through to more experienced players. Each book contains 50 original tunes arranged in 2-4 parts, including chords.

Assumed Knowledge: No prior experience required. All skills will be taught on the day

Date and Time: 12-noon Sunday December 5 (Melbourne Time.) This is 5 pm the previous day (Saturday) in US Pacific time.

Cost Aus $24 (Australian) for a 90 minute session. This is about US$18. There will be some free downloadable resources on the day.
